Registration

The 2025 session of ALA Louisiana Girls State will take place from Sunday, June 8, 2025 through Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. Louisiana Girls State is a program with a long history of building connections, developing leaders, and educating younger generations on the duties, privileges, and responsibilities of being an American citizen. Please email us directly with any program-related questions.

Candidates should be in excellent academic standing with their school, interested in government and current events, and show strong leadership abilities. The program is open to students who are in the summer between their junior and senior year. They must have completed their junior year and not started their senior year at the time of the program.

If your school does not participate, is not familiar with Louisiana Girls State, or has already selected their delegates, fill out an application using the link below, and we will follow up with registration information following acceptance.

The Registration Portal will open on January 13, 2025, and will close on May 1, 2025.

Scholarships & Girls Nation

Girls Nation

The deadline for Girls Nation applications is Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. No late applications will be accepted after this date. Girls Nation is scheduled from July 19-26, 2025 in Washington D.C. On Thursday, June 12, Staff will contact those delegates who have advanced to in-person interviews. Only those delegates who advance to in-person interviews will be contacted. The two delegates selected for Girls Nation will be announced at the closing ceremony. The application link and sample legislative bill instructions can be found below. A legislative bill is required to be written on an original topic that is of interest to the delegate based on the outline provided. The bill topic and debate of the topic will be weighted heavily in the scoring for the two Girls Nation candidates. Information on ALA Girls Nation can be found HERE.

Samsung Scholarship

Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996. Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea's aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the principal amount. As of 2019, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $6.5 million in college scholarships to 2,266 applicants since its inception in 1996.
 

Samsung scholarships may be used for undergraduate studies and applied toward tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Winners are selected according to academic record, involvement in school and community service.

  • Ten National Scholars receive $10,000 each (two from each region)

  • Ten National Runners-Up receive $5,000 each (two from each region)

  • Remaining Department Finalists receive $1,250 each guaranteed

 

The deadline for Samsung Scholarship applications is Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. Applications will be reviewed during the program, and the delegate selected to receive $1,250 will be announced at the closing ceremony. The delegate also gets the opportunity to advance to the national round with other delegates from the United States for scholarships between $5,000-$10,000. The application link can be found below.
